October 2026 China Heavy Truck Exports: 40,000 Units as Africa and LatAm Keep Buying
October extended the split that defines the 2026 heavy truck market in China: an estimated 40,000 units exported, up about 20 percent year on year, while domestic sales fell for a fourth straight month. September customs data show Africa taking 46.7 percent of exports and Latin America hitting a record, with Vietnam, Tanzania, Nigeria, Peru and Kenya the top five destinations. What the numbers mean for used truck buyers.

The heavy truck market in China kept its two-speed rhythm in October 2026. Wholesale volume slipped to an estimated 92,000 units, down 7 percent from September and 13 percent from a year earlier - the fourth consecutive monthly decline - while the first ten months still total 1.02 million units, 10 percent ahead of last year. Exports again carried the market: an estimated 40,000 trucks shipped in October, up about 20 percent year on year, according to preliminary industry estimates (reported). The most recent official detail comes from September customs data: 47,900 units exported, up 42.6 percent, taking the January-September total to 363,500 units, up 40.5 percent. Africa absorbed 22,400 of those September units - 46.7 percent of all exports and the strongest month since 2015 - Latin America jumped 129 percent to a record month, Southeast Asia added another 19 percent, and the five largest destinations were Vietnam, Tanzania, Nigeria, Peru and Kenya. We covered the September record in detail in the September export report and the brand-level story in the SINOTRUK share analysis; both sit inside the longer arc described in the global used truck trade overview.
Why the domestic slide matters to overseas buyers
The home market explains why factories are fighting for export orders. Domestic retail fell about 12 percent to roughly 62,000 units in October as freight rates stayed weak, manufacturing PMI slipped to 49.3 and last year trade-in subsidies faded. Dealers have been destocking since April, and broker research now forecasts full-year exports near 460,000 units, up about 35 percent (reported). Powertrain shifts compound the story: new energy trucks took roughly 34,000 domestic sales in October, pushing penetration toward 55 percent, while gas-powered trucks dropped 68 percent in their fifth straight monthly fall - a transition we track in the used EV turning point analysis. More new trucks sold at home means the diesel fleet keeps aging, and that is precisely the pool tomorrow used exports come from.
Reading the destination list as a buyer
The top-five ranking is a live map of where parts density and service networks are deepening fastest. Tanzania and Kenya anchor the East African corridor system, covered country by country in the Tanzania import guide and the Kenya import guide; Nigeria volumes clear through the Lagos ports process; and Peru leads the Latin American surge documented in the Peru import guide. Heavy demand in a destination usually means better local parts availability and sharper price discovery, so benchmark offers against destination-market quotes using our price guide. Whatever the monthly data does, the buying basics do not move: inspect the truck before any deposit, pay in milestones, and get the warranty and aftersales terms in writing before the vessel sails.
