China Used Truck Export Outlook 2026: 380,000 Heavy Trucks Headed Global

The Chinese used truck export industry is on track for another record year. Industry forecasts for 2026 put China’s heavy truck exports at 380,000 to 400,000 units, up from roughly 350,000 in 2025 and just 61,000 as recently as 2020. For overseas buyers, this means wider selection, keener pricing and faster availability in 2026. Here is what the numbers say, and how to use them.
Five-year growth at a glance
- 2020: 61,000 heavy trucks exported
- 2025: approximately 350,000 units (+10% year on year)
- 2026 forecast: 380,000-400,000 units, with Africa absorbing 15-20% of the total
The electric truck effect: more quality diesel stock for export
One of the least understood forces in the 2026 market is China’s rapid domestic electrification. Electric heavy trucks are projected to reach around 60% of China’s domestic heavy truck market by 2026. Every fleet that switches to electric releases well-maintained diesel tractors and dump trucks into the secondary market — many with low mileage, complete service records and strong mechanical condition.
For buyers in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, this is excellent news: the average quality and age profile of export-grade used trucks is improving even as prices stay competitive.
Africa remains the anchor market
The African used truck market is forecast to grow from about $5.8 billion in 2024 to $9 billion by 2030, a compound annual growth rate of 5.6-9.2%. Infrastructure spending continues to drive demand for dump trucks, flatbeds and mixer trucks, while the African Continental Free Trade Area and rising e-commerce are expanding long-haul logistics fleets.
Used trucks hold a decisive price advantage in these markets: typically one-half to one-third of the price of a new truck, with lower maintenance costs, easy-to-source parts and strong resale value.
Three practical tips for 2026 buyers
- Buy early in the quarter. The best low-mileage ex-fleet units are purchased quickly by large dealers; ordering early gives you first pick of incoming stock.
- Insist on a full inspection report. Ask for engine, transmission and axle test results plus photo documentation before shipment.
- Confirm shipping schedules in advance. Roll-on/roll-off and flat-rack space to West African and Latin American ports fills up fast in peak season.
