Used Tractor Truck Prices 2026: HOWO, Shacman, FAW, Dongfeng and FOTON FOB Benchmarks

Every used truck negotiation starts with the same question: what is a fair price? In 2026 the answer depends on three layers - the FOB price in China, the freight to your port, and the duty stack at destination. This guide benchmarks the first layer across the five brands that dominate Chinese used truck exports, then shows how the other two layers stack on top.
2026 FOB Price Benchmarks: Five Brands, One Table
Indicative FOB prices from exporter yards in Tianjin and Shanghai, October 2026. Stock moves weekly, so treat these as a mid-year reference band, not a quote:
- Shacman M3000 6x4 (2020, 400HP, Weichai): from ~$8,800 FOB - the value pick with the strongest parts network in West Africa.
- HOWO 6x4 371 (2018, WD615): $9,500-$11,500 FOB - the default African workhorse.
- FAW J6 6x4 (2019, 400HP, CA6DM2): $10,000-$12,500 FOB - dominant in East Africa, especially Kenya and Ethiopia.
- Dongfeng Tianlong VL 6x4 (2021, 400HP): ~$11,000 FOB - newer year at a mid-tier price.
- HOWO 6x4 371 (2020-21): $13,500-$16,500 FOB - the newer-generation premium over the 2018 units.
- Dongfeng KL 6x4 (2022, 465HP): $15,000-$18,000 FOB.
- FOTON Auman GTL 6x4 (2022, 440HP): ~$18,000 FOB - the top of the used market for 2022 stock.
Two structural notes: Dongfeng and FOTON often price lower for the same year than the market leaders because their overseas parts networks are thinner - which is exactly why the brand-by-region fit below matters more than the sticker price.
From FOB to CIF: What Freight Adds in 2026
FOB is just the beginning. RORO freight rates from China to Africa jumped 28-42% in the first half of 2026 and remain elevated:
- Lagos (Nigeria): $2,200-$3,500 per unit, 25-35 days.
- Mombasa (Kenya): $2,000-$3,200, 20-30 days.
- Dar es Salaam (Tanzania): $2,000-$3,000, 20-30 days.
- Tema (Ghana): $2,300-$3,600, 25-35 days.
- Durban (South Africa): $2,600-$4,200, 30-40 days.
A route that cost $1,800 to Lagos last year now runs $2,200-$3,500. At 2026 freight levels, container shipping is competitive again for tractor heads: the truck is partially disassembled (mirrors, bumper, air deflector) and stuffed in a 40ft box - more labor, less freight, and the truck rides protected. RORO still saves $500-$1,000 per unit where sailings are available, but West Africa-bound RORO space fills quickly in Q4 - book before you finalize unit selection.
Brand-by-Region Fit: Where Parts Decide the Winner
Purchase price is one payment; parts availability is ten years of payments. The regional map in 2026:
- West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, Benin): HOWO and Shacman lead. Lagos Ladipo Market and Accra Abossey Okai stock everything from filters to complete cylinder heads; Shacman coverage is particularly strong here.
- East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia): FAW dominates, with HOWO close behind. Nairobi Industrial Area and Kampala both carry depth.
- Middle East transshipment: Dubai Ras Al Khor covers all five brands for buyers consolidating shipments.
Worked Example: HOWO 371 to Lagos
- FOB Tianjin (2020 unit): $15,000.
- RORO freight to Lagos: +$2,500 → CIF ≈ $17,500.
- Nigeria duty stack (30-50% of CIF for trucks - see our Lagos clearance guide): +$5,250-$8,750.
- Clearing, terminal and inland: $1,000-$1,500.
- Landed cost: roughly $24,000-$27,500 - still well under a used European tractor at $25,000-$40,000 before duties.
How to Use These Benchmarks
When a quote lands above the band, ask for the year justification, hours and compression test results. When it lands far below, suspect a rebuilt unit or a mismatched registration year. And always price the destination side before comparing FOB offers - our price guide for HOWO buyers and our clearance guides cover the duty stacks market by market. TianCheng Truck supplies inspected HOWO, Shacman, SITRAK and FAW tractors with itemized FOB/CIF pricing and live video inspection. Request current stock prices and our export team replies within 24 hours.
