- Left-hand drive: Egyptian traffic drives on the right, so Chinese LHD inventory works without modification — unlike Japanese domestic-market trucks, which are RHD and unsuitable.
- Documents: bill of lading, commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, import declaration, plus the importer's tax card and commercial register. A licensed customs broker is strongly recommended for first-time importers.

A new HOWO dump truck from the local assembly channel costs roughly EGP 3-4 million (about $60,000-80,000). A used 2021 HOWO 6x4 in good condition runs $12,000-17,000 FOB Tianjin, around $19,000-25,000 CIF Alexandria. Even after duties, the landed cost is well under half of new.
Budget for the duty stack: customs duty of 30-40% (depending on engine capacity and vehicle type) plus 14% VAT, with clearance fees of roughly $200-600 and variable port storage and handling charges.
Shipping: the Suez advantage
Main import ports are Alexandria (most container and RoRo traffic) and Damietta. Vessels from China to the Mediterranean transit the Suez Canal anyway, making the routing direct: 20-35 days typical transit, among the shortest of any major used truck corridor.
